Another year of film has passed and the time has come for another great, yet unpredictable start to the awards season: The 77th Golden Globes! Today, I am sharing my annual predictions for what will win, could win, and deserves to win in the film categories for the weekend. The awards show is on NBC this Sunday, January 5, 2020 at 7:00 PM CST. Make sure to tune in!

“Best Film Drama” The nominees are: Marriage Story,The IrishmanJoker1917, and The Two Popes



What will win: The Irishman

What could win: Marriage Story

What deserves to win:  Marriage Story




“Best Film Drama Actress” The nominees are: Renee Zellweger for Judy, Charlize Theron for Bombshell, Scarlett Johansson for Marriage Story, Saoirse Ronan for Little Women, and Cynthia Erivo for Harriet



Who will win: Renee Zellweger

 Who could win: Scarlett Johansson 

Who deserves to win: Saoirse Ronan



“Best Film Drama Actor” The nominees are: Joaquin Phoenix for Joker, Adam Driver for Marriage Story, Antonio Banderas for Pain and Glory,Jonathan Pryce for The Two Popes, and Christian Bale for Ford v Ferrari



Who will win: Joaquin Phoenix

Who could win: Adam Driver 

Who deserves to win: Adam Driver



“Best Film Comedy/Musical” The nominees are: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Knives Out, Jojo Rabbit, Dolemite Is My Name ,and Rocketman. 



What will win: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

 What could win: Knives Out 

What deserves to win: Rocketman



“Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress” The nominees are: Awkwafina for The Farewell, Ana de Armas for Knives Out, Beanie Feldstein for Booksmart, Emma Thompson for Late Night, and Cate Blanchette for Where'd You Go Bernadette?



Who will win: Awkwafina 

Who could win: Ana de Armas 

Who deserves to win: Awkwafina 


“Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor” The nominees are: Eddie Murphy for Dolemite Is My Name, Taron Egerton for Rocketman, Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Daniel Craig for Knives Out, and Roman Griffin Davis for Jojo Rabbit. 



Who will win: Eddie Murphy 

Who could win: Leonardo DiCaprio 

Who deserves to win: Taron Egerton



“Best Film Supporting Actress” The nominees are: Laura Dern for Marriage Story, Kathy Bates for Richard Jewell, Jennifer Lopez for Hustlers, Annette Bening for The Report, and Margot Robbie for Bombshell.  





 Who will win: Laura Dern (side note: either of these lovely women have a 100% shot at women, so at this point, I'm literally picking who I want to win!)

Who could win: Jennifer Lopez 

Who deserves to win: Laura Dern


 “Best Film Supporting Actor” The nominees are: Brad Pitt for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Joe Pesci for The Irishman, Al Pacino for The Irishman,Tom Hanks for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, and Anthony Hopkins for The Two Popes. 



Who will win: Brad Pitt 

Who could win: Tom Hanks 

Who deserves to win: Brad Pitt



“Best Film Director”

The nominees are: Bong Joon Ho for Parasite, Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Martin Scorsese for The Irishman, Todd Philips for Joker, and Sam Mendes for 1917.  



Who will win: Bong Joon Ho 

Who could win: Martin Scorcese

 Who deserves to win: Bong Joon Ho

“Best Foreign Language Film” The nominees are: Parasite, Pain and Glory, Portrait of a Lady on FireLes Miserables, and The Farewell

“Best Score” The nominees are: Marriage Story, 1917, Little Women, Joker, and Motherless Brooklyn.

“Best Song” The nominees are: “Into the Unknown” from Frozen, “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” from Rocketman, “Beautiful Ghosts” from Cats, “Spirit” from The Lion King, and “Stand Up” from Harriet. 



What will win: “Into the Unknown” 

 What could win:“Beautiful Ghosts” 

What deserves to win: “I’m Gonna Love Me Again” (Because let's face it: the rest of these nominees absolutely suck...)
