“A Star Is Born”: a sure bet winner for “Best Picture” at the 2019 Oscars.  Directed by: Bradley Cooper  Rated: R Runtime: 2:17 Review by: Livi Edmonson Certified fresh at a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, “A Star Is Born” is this season’s first taste of Oscar gold. First-time director and co-writer of the film, Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper, plays Jackson Maine, a famous singer who has been around the music scene for quite some time. One night, a drunken as usual Jackson accidentally stumbles into a drag bar and meets Ally (Lady Gaga): an aspiring singer with the most stunning voice Jackson has ever heard. Jackson brings Ally out of her shell by giving her hopes of a real singing career and a chance at loving relationship. However, there are always obstacles on this road of fame and love.   “A Simple Favor” is an especially stylish, yet extremely psychotic blockbuster thriller.  Directed by: Paul Feig Rated: R Runtime: 1:59 Review by: Livi Edmonson Director Paul Feig, who many may know as the director of comedic hits such as “Bridesmaids” (2011) and “Ghostbusters” (2016), gives audiences everywhere a darker side of his work with “A Simple Favor”, which is adapted from the 2017 novel of the same title. The mystery movie is about a stay at home, vlogger mom named Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), who befriends a not as involved, super high-class mom named Emily (Blake Lively). The friendship first begins when Emily’s son begs her to allow him to invite Stephanie’s son over for a play date, which means a cocktail party at Emily’s million-dollar home for the mommies.
